- Wire
- 1.5 mm² · 16 AWG
- Example fuse
- 20 A
- Design current
- 13.1 A
- Voltage drop
- 2.2%
Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.
Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 20 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Verify RSP550E before selecting hardware
The catalog lists RSP550E, 550 W, but an exact manufacturer document for that part number was not located. The downloaded Renogy RSP550D sheet describes a different model and has not been substituted. The catalog's 41.97 V Vmp, 13.11 A Imp and 49.95 V Voc therefore remain unverified planning inputs. The photo does not supply a readable rear label that resolves the suffix.
Read the full model and revision from the actual module, including its electrical label and connector identification. Obtain its matching datasheet and installation instructions before finalizing a string or ordering protection. The linked Renogy panel installation manual supplies family guidance only; it does not verify the RSP550E electrical or mechanical specifications.
Plan a controller connection without assuming a voltage ceiling
For the proposed 12 V application, route PV through an appropriate MPPT controller and connect its battery output separately. The controller must accommodate the complete array's worst-case cold open-circuit voltage, not merely the catalog's roughly 50 V room-temperature figure. A controller whose maximum is 50 V cannot be justified from this unverified entry.
Do not borrow a temperature coefficient or maximum system voltage from RSP550D. These missing exact-model parameters prevent a dependable cold-string calculation. Series wiring adds voltage; parallel wiring adds current and potential backfeed into a faulted string.
Confirm cable, connector and fuse limits
The actual module's Isc, maximum series fuse, cable construction and mating connector type still need verification. Crimp's 20 A terminal allowance does not establish any of those ratings. Match connectors by manufacturer and type, provide supported outdoor PV cable, and choose protection from the verified module, cable and controller limits.
Renogy's family instructions call for isolating the circuit and covering modules during work. Do not separate PV connectors under load. Follow the controller's connection order; the family example, printed page 63, connects the battery and configures charging before connecting PV.
Confirm the frame and mounting method
The catalog dimensions and mass also need the exact-model drawing. A large panel requires a support designed for its frame and the roof's structural limits; a wattage match does not establish compatible mounting holes or clamp zones. Renogy's rigid-panel family guidance uses intended frame mounting locations and preserves drainage and ventilation.
Before commissioning, record the confirmed model/revision, cold-string voltage, Isc, protection and mounting arrangement. Keep this component's verification status unresolved until that evidence is available; plausible specifications from another 550 W panel do not close the gap.
