Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.1 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 15 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which RSP200D version matches this component?

This is the 40-cell RSP200D represented by Renogy's G2 datasheet: 200 W, 22.6 V Vmp, 27 V Voc and 8.85 A Imp. The model-specific datasheet, page 2 matches those catalog values and specifies 1650 × 670 × 35 mm, 12 kg, and 14 AWG output cables, 2.95 ft long. Check the panel label when adding another RSP200D; the model name alone does not establish matching electrical characteristics.

What should be checked before wiring panels together?

The G2 panel's short-circuit current is 9.66 A, separate from its 8.85 A operating current. Its Voc temperature coefficient is −0.28%/°C: cold cells raise the open-circuit voltage above the 27 V rating measured at 25 °C. Add series voltages and allow for the lowest expected cell temperature before checking the controller's maximum PV voltage. Parallel strings add current, so the controller's PV short-circuit-current limit also matters.

The datasheet specifies a 15 A maximum series fuse rating. Renogy's general installation manual, section 1.3.5 says that a fuse must not exceed the panel's own maximum. Its generic current-band table would suggest 20 A at this panel's Isc, which exceeds the G2 limit. Do not use that generic result for this version; resolve the protection design against the panel label, applicable installation requirements and controller instructions. The connector's 30 A rating is not a module fuse rating.

What does installation require?

The panel is a PV source, so its “12 V” designation does not mean a regulated 12 V output. Feed a compatible charge controller rather than connecting it directly to the battery. The manual's battery-charging sequence, section 2.2.3 connects battery first, then PV.

The G2 sheet lists an IP65 junction box and IP67 connectors. Keep connections dry during assembly and fully latched; cover the panel before wiring and never unplug under load. Use the existing mounting holes, allow cooling airflow behind the panel, and secure cables and fasteners against roof abrasion and vibration. Check connector compatibility when buying extensions.
