Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Show sizes in AWG

Supporting parts

  1. 6.1 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 15 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Identify the 400 W module within the two-pack sheet

The RSP400DCT column is sold as RSP400DCT-108x2 in Renogy's shared 320/400 W two-pack datasheet. Its ratings are per 400 W panel, not the combined package: 34.0 V Vmp, 11.76 A Imp, 39.42 V Voc and 13.06 A Isc. See technical table, page 2. The adjacent 320 W column describes a different module.

The 400 W panel has 108 half-cells, measures 1722 × 1134 × 35 mm and weighs 20.6 kg. Verify the actual label and revision before combining older stock.

Allow for cold voltage and rear-side current

The sheet specifies −0.26%/°C Voc temperature coefficient. Calculate the full series string's cold Voc, including applicable tolerances, before selecting a controller. Use an MPPT controller for a 12 V battery and respect its voltage, short-circuit-current and power limits.

Bifacial production depends on light reaching the rear surface, roof reflectivity, spacing and shadows. Extra output is not a fixed percentage to add to every system. Check expected rear-side current contribution when sizing the PV input and conductors. The catalog's 4.2 sun-hour default is a planning assumption, not a manufacturer performance guarantee.

Distinguish module, connector and fuse ratings

The exact table gives 25 A maximum series fuse, 1500 V maximum module-system voltage, and separate connector ratings of 40 A / 1500 V. These are different constraints. A high connector rating does not permit a module fuse above 25 A; a high module-system voltage does not permit exceeding the charge controller's input voltage.

The supplied output leads are 12 AWG, 1700 mm, and the junction box contains three bypass diodes. Match extensions to the actual locking connector type, secure cable loops and protect them from abrasion. Crimp's 15 A terminal envelope remains a conservative planning value, not published connector ampacity or a prescribed string fuse.

Mount to expose the rear without compromising support

Use the frame's designed mounting points and a structure suitable for this large glass panel. Keep rails and other objects from unnecessarily shading the rear active area. Preserve drainage, airflow and cable access. Renogy's rigid monofacial/bifacial mounting instructions, section 2.1.2, cover the family installation method.

Cover and isolate modules while assembling the circuit, never disconnect live PV connectors under load, and verify polarity before energizing. Follow the controller's battery-first commissioning sequence and set its charging profile for the actual battery chemistry. Inspect mounting fasteners and cable support after vehicle vibration or severe weather.
