Build a 12 V bank from 6 V batteries
Lifeline's GPL-L16T product page specifies a 6 V, 400 Ah AGM deep-cycle battery, with capacity rated at C20. Two matched units in series form a 12 V, 400 Ah bank: voltage adds, amp-hour capacity does not. Connect the first battery's positive to the second battery's negative, then use the two remaining outer terminals for the system. The Lifeline bank diagrams, page 15, show this relationship and parallel-string alternatives.
Crimp's 400 A discharge allowance is a sizing assumption, not a manufacturer-published continuous-discharge limit. The technical manual explains discharge capacity as a function of rate and cutoff voltage; the 400 Ah capacity figure alone cannot establish a 400 A terminal or load rating.
Install and protect the bank
For GPL-L16T, the terminal table, page 13, specifies standard M8 copper-alloy threaded inserts and 70 in-lb / 7.9 Nm torque. Fit the correct bolts and lugs, cover exposed positive connections and protect the system cables against short circuits. Confirm whether the battery has optional terminal hardware; do not substitute the different positive terminal used on some 12 V Lifeline models.
Install upright, with at least 0.25 inch between batteries for airflow. Provide ventilation even though AGM batteries do not require added water. Use batteries of the same size and condition, with balanced current paths when strings are paralleled. Lifeline limits charging cable drop to 0.2 V at full output. See installation, page 14.
Set charging voltages for the whole bank
At 25°C, each 6 V battery uses 7.15 ± 0.05 V absorption and 6.65 ± 0.05 V float; a two-battery 12 V bank therefore uses 14.3 ± 0.1 V and 13.3 ± 0.1 V. Apply the manual's temperature compensation. Full charge is indicated when absorption current falls below 0.5% of capacity, or 2 A for a 400 Ah series string. See charging instructions, page 19.
For repeated cycles deeper than 50%, Lifeline recommends a charger capable of at least 0.2C, which is 80 A here. The catalog's 80 A charging field is consequently not an absolute maximum rating. See page 20.
Maintain usable reserve
Size around Lifeline's recommended 50% average discharge depth where service life matters. Recharge fully after use. During storage, boost-charge every 90 days or when resting voltage reaches 6.25 V per battery, following the manual's storage procedure. Measure individual 6 V batteries as well as total bank voltage; a normal total can conceal unequal batteries.
