Cable sizing for this example
Use the diagram as a starting point for your installation. Replace the example equipment and cable lengths with your own, and check the connections against your exact model's instructions.
Cable sizes depend on the connected equipment, current and cable lengths. Add those details in Crimp to size each run.

Identify the illustrated generation
The red-lid, blue-case photograph matches Dakota's 2024 catalog 12 V 100 Ah deep-cycle battery. That document describes a Group 24, 12.8 V, 1280 Wh battery with an internal BMS. These notes apply to that illustrated generation; the current heated product and DL+ starting batteries have different features. Check the case label and dimensions before using a replacement product's settings. See 2024 catalog, page 14.
Separate operating limits from starting current
The catalog specifies 100 A maximum continuous discharge, 200 A for ten seconds, and 50 A maximum charging. This is a deep-cycle battery and is not specified for engine starting. Crimp's charge and discharge values follow those ratings; its 200 A terminal planning value does not make 200 A a continuous battery rating.
The BMS provides protective shutdown, not a normal on/off switch for managing an overloaded system. A sudden loss of output can indicate a protection trip. Remove the cause before following the manual's compatible-charger reset procedure. See BMS explanation, page 7.
Charge and protect against cold
Use a LiFePO4-compatible charger set for 14.4 V. The family manual requires a DC-DC charger for alternator charging of its deep-cycle batteries and advises disconnecting the charger when full rather than long-term maintenance charging. Avoid charging this generation below 0°C; these sources do not establish a heater or a low-temperature charge cutoff for the pictured unit. See charging, pages 8 and 11–12.
Connect the terminals and build a bank
The 2024 specification identifies M8 terminals. Put the cable lug directly against the terminal, washers above the lug, and apply corrosion protection only after assembly. Torque remains a source conflict: the family manual says 10 ft-lb maximum while the catalog says 15 ft-lb. Obtain the instruction for the physical battery before tightening. See terminal assembly, page 6.
Fully charge matching batteries before connection. The manual allows up to four 12 V batteries in series and illustrates parallel wiring with positive-terminal fuses and opposite-end system takeoffs. Select fuse and cable ratings for the actual circuit; the illustration is not a universal wire-size prescription. See bank wiring, pages 14–15.
