Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.
Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 16 mm² (6 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 16 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 60 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Read the 12 V V700 ratings separately
The V700 manual's specification table on page 4 lists a 320 W motor, 45 A normal current, a 35 A circuit breaker and a 79 kg working-load limit. Its 320 kg maximum pull is a different condition. The current and breaker figures are not interchangeable, and the motor's watt label is not a complete prediction of battery current under load.
Connect the complete reversing circuit
The canvas's positive and negative pins represent the supply to the windlass circuit. They do not replace the reversing controls. Page 8 shows the specified 0052519 toggle switch carrying motor current directly. Page 9 instead uses contactor 0052531 with a 3 A control fuse for the rocker, foot switches and handheld control. Match the fitted arrangement; small control switches must not replace the specified power-switching hardware. Both diagrams include the 35 A breaker/isolator 68000604.
Identify motor cable colours and the actual switch/contactor terminals before terminating cables. Test direction with the rode clear and a person watching the windlass, then isolate before adjustments.
Size the complete cable route
Section 5 sizes conductors by the full positive-and-negative route, including the switchgear. Measure both legs, evaluate loaded voltage at the motor and check the manufacturer's cable chart alongside installation ampacity requirements. A stalled or heavily loaded windlass draws more than its normal-current figure; do not enlarge the breaker to conceal poor battery voltage, corroded joints or a mechanical jam.
The catalog's surge and terminal limits are planning assumptions, not separately verified V700 motor or connector ratings. Confirm any design that depends on them with the installed unit's documentation.
Arrange the anchor handling hardware
Confirm the gypsy matches the actual chain standard and rope. Preserve the required chain fall and clearance below deck; a pile-up in the locker can look like an electrical failure. The manual also covers fall-safe operation and manual recovery. Secure the anchor and rode independently when under way or lying at anchor, rather than loading the windlass continuously.
Switch off the breaker/isolator when the windlass is not in use. Before service, isolate its electrical supply and secure the anchor; clear the mechanism before restoring power. Periodically inspect the rode, mounting, corrosion protection and cable connections as described in sections 7–9.
